How would you like an energizing "date" with some "oats"?
Okay, maybe that isn't your dream date... I know mine includes Ryan Gosling and a recreation of the notebook... but that's not the type of date i'm talking about. date: n. (FRUIT) /deɪt/ : sweet, brown fruit of various types of palm tree. the (Definition of date from Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary © Cambridge University Press) The great thing about these - what looks like giant syrup-y grapes- is they can be smashed to form a jelly like substance which is perfect for adding your favorite nuts, granola, dried fruit, or dark chocolate pieces. This particular recipe is an adaption of the one on Colorful Canary's blog which can be found here: 2 Ingredient No Bake Date Squares. Ingredients: 1/3 cup of Simply Balanced Organic Hot Cereal Oat & Quinoa Blend (From Target $3.49) 5 Dates (From Kroger like .50 cents/lb) 1 pinch of Decadent Blend Chia & Flax Seed with Coconut & Cocoa (From HEB $7.98) The work: 1. Put dates in a bowl and mash. How will I know when to stop mashing? The optimum result you're looking for is a thick jelly like substance. Mold-able like cookie dough but not soft, and it's sticky like the middle of pecan pie. (yum!) 2.Put a pinch of the decadent blend powder on top then mash into the already mashed dates. 3. Sprinkle the oats on top. Mix & stir them in gently until you reach the desired amount of oats you want on your bars. You might not need the entire 1/3 cup oats, just depends on your oat preference. 4. Mold the mix into rectangles, balls, squares, hearts, etc. Just like baking cookies. Be creative, use cookie cutters! How did you make your shape? I started with them in little balls like cookie dough. I then started flattening them into small plump squares, I placed the square on the plate and pressed with my fork then pushed the edges like fluffing a pillow. Just worked with it until I got my desired result. It's all over my hands, is that supposed to happen? Yes, If you notice, I used 5 dates. The end result gave me about 4 bars. My theory is part of that 5th date is what is on your hands. It happens, collateral damage! Sorry 5th date you'll never get to be a BAR! 5. To harden them you can put them in the fridge. I put mine in the freezer because i'm impatient. :) Unfortunately I disabled comments to avoid my site of spam postings. Feel free to drop me a line with the form below. |
